Octospyder - currently the smallest font is system_font. But I think I can prepare a bit smaller one.

dear specky et al.

i know, this is out of topic, however, i assembled two wi232-modules to do the pc connection. all hardware test are ok and the radiotronix-soft recognize the module in a way (seems to get the FW version). the problem: i can not program the modules following the wiki.
it is always writen "unknown" on the current state pannel. writing does not change that status.

i connected both with the same effect... any ideas?

thanks for any help on that...
best, grex

it seems, that one needs to first push read on every radiotronix parameter to get the corresponding wi232 entry of that parameter... so i gonna try that today. potentially everything is fine. let you know... best, grex

dear all

i could manage in the meantime to setup the wi232 connection uart2-pc.
well i can easily read and write mk values (fw update not checked) in xpee-buffered mode.
if i start the osd-manager and connect to the wi232 port i get always a timeout.

do you have a hint for me? for me it looks like the osd-manager dont like the 56k rate????

thanks for any hint!

best, grex

I did some more test over the weekend for the OSD.
This is by far the best little osd available.
Is a stand alone unit which you don't need any external sensors for the telemetry.
It picks up the info from the flight controller and the navi and gps.
You can configure which parameters you want to display. Is has 4 screens which you can configure your self to what to display.
I can also switch screens from the Tx.
Amazing little unit.
But if you want one you have to wait awhile they have backorders from Christmas.
Here's a little video to demostrate how the OSD works.
Is setup in the shop (too cold outside) and I still get 5-6 satellites.

enjoy.
Cheers

Yeah, for sure. The integration with the MK is perfect.

Just loaded the small font and love it. The small font and small status flags is a great combo. Love all of this customization! Thanks Irek!

Hello everyone :)

Pyrdacor - I was sure we will have osd borads two weeks ago, but we received them in wednesday and now we are preparing everything for shipment ( programing, preparing cables, etc.)

Grex - yes PC manager communicates with OSD with 115200 bits/s. I will try to prepare an option to allow managing osd via wireless link.

Grex, Octospyder, Seattle_hello - guys, great thanks for positive feedback and valuable ideas :) I really apreciate it :)

Best Regards - Irek

Just ordered one, looks awesome!! That's what I was searching for to add for my Y6-Copter! When I started to order the MK parts and frame last summer I did not expect to have such a nice OSD by this time
Veery nice job!

:D

dear irek

osd configuration/updates via wi232 would be great...
56k would be appreciated... to have the wi232 setup once for both ;-)).

the mk parameterization and osd already work fine via your uart2 and wi232.
allowing mk fw updates would be a plus ;-)))...

thanks anyway for yoir great job.

Hi guys,

Together with Andrew we spent Saturday in preparation for shipment osd (all boards are preprogrammed and tested)
most of cables are ready. Due to factory mistake the boards are in "old" configuration and not in "new" that I' had mentioned few pages ago.
The "old" configuration means that the new tiles are the same, they have all existing users.
Shipping week is coming :)

Specky - You have right, this option is not stored, it is just for information of PC manager what font is uploaded to osd.
But it will be easy to change this and store that information.

Cr_Conrad - please send me an email (irek@smart-electronics.eu) with your forum nick.

DRAGNET - thanks :)

Grex - I'm working on this, and on orientation issue too :)

Irek, a great add-on to your already incredible OSD would be its ability to output NMEA GPS stream via the UART2 port. You are already decoding the UBLOX from the MK debug port so having the NMEA stream outputed would be of great use for things like antenna trackers requiring info like this.

For one, I have the MyFlyDreams antenna tracker but require a seperate GPS receiver on my MK. Having the SmartOSD decode this from the MK UBLOX would save me from having to use a seperate GPS. Also, your OSD Manager software could provide a choice in either outputing only the NMEA stream, super-imposing this stream to the existing debug info or just plain debug info from MK.

Please let me know if you require further clarification. Thanks!

Yves - osd doesn't have any connection to mk gps - but I think it would be possible to reconstruct NMEA message from information received from navi control. You will just need to check which NMEA messages your tracker accepts.
I'm also afraid that this will require to kill transparent uart funcionality.

thanks Irek. So is the SmartOSD already receiving geospatial coordinates without the need to convert from UBLOX format? It would really be great if you could reconstruct the typical NMEA serial format used by most GPS devices. For example the Locosys is a popular receiver:

NMEA 0183 ver 3.01
LOCOSYS Technology Inc.
9600 bps(1), 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bits (default) 1Hz: GGA, GLL, GSA, GSV, RMC, VTG

I know quite a few MK owners that were frustrated by the fact that the UBLOX GPS on the MK couldn't be configured to send out the NMEA as well as the UBLOX. They are also using antenna trackers and would love to have an OSD that could do this as well since they needed to add an additional GPS receiver on the MK just like I had to do.

As for the transparent uart functionality, couldn't you have the OSD Manager software allow you to choose either passthrough, NMEA stream output or super-imposing both streams (having the passthrough data with injected NMEA stream).

Just a thought. This is all value added features for your product and personally, I would be willing to pay more to have this included if it means getting rid of my second GPS on the MK :)

It's really great that you guys are open to suggestions like these. Very few manufacturers actually listen to feedback from the customer these days.

OSD is receiving converted data from navicontrol, but OSD can create own NMEA sentence based
on information from navi (geo position, altitude, etc.).
I think that $GPGGA sentence should be sufficient to track mikrokopter.

Yes, it can be switchable, but nmea and MK data cannot be sent together. You will need to choose which one you want.

Hello again Irek. I have just heard back from the MyFlyDream antenna tracker developer and he says the tracker needs both $GPGGA and $GPRMC packets in the NMEA stream.

Could the SmartOSD be capable of providing this?
