I want to have the smart-osd on ground instead, with the wi-module as the navictrl. Can I do as follows:

- hook up a 5 volt supply to the +5v/gnd pads on the wi-module, that will then supply the wi and the smartosd ?
- I still want to be able to use the MK windows software and mk usb for waypoints and so on. Can I hook up the mk-usb as well, at the uart port?

I'm hooking my OSD to my ground station and using Xbee, this will enable me to also use the MKTools

Hello,

Matzito- you paypal request is waiting.

Azred - thats strange - could you show global settings of your osd boards?

wizprod - just make sure, that proper pins on MK port in osd i powered with +5V.
In ground setup connect the wi module to MK port in osd, and connect osd via usb to your computer,
then you will not need MKusb.

Here is the global settings of the new black board, i do not know how to paste into this site:
Black pixel - 60
White pixel - 200
nav map lock = fly
video system = NTSC (352x240)
horizontal position = 56
vertical position =22
Camera angle=127
analog inputs multiplier= 1.681, 5.714, 5.714
screen swithc mode = Binary
transparent Uart port = Xbee port, GPS Tracker
Heading compensation = 0 deg

Older red board has these settings:
Black pixel - 60
White pixel - 200
nav map lock = motor run
video system = NTSC (352x240)
horizontal position = 60
vertical position =22
Camera angle=60
analog inputs multiplier= 1.0, 1.0, 1.0
screen swithc mode = Binary
transparent Uart port = Xbee port, Direct
Heading compensation = 0 deg

both boards display identically, good video from camera, white OSD overlay vibrates from its position to one line down then back up rapidly. Any assistance would be good, i am anxious to use the boards.

I don't understand what this means exactly. Are you saying that we don't need to connect the MKUSB if we have the OSD installed? simply connect the PC to the USB on the SmartOSD and it will passthrough the serial streams to the MK port on the Navi?

Will this work when programming the firmware?

thanks

Ynik - email me (irek@internet.szczecin.pl) with your forum nick.

Azred - how are you powering osd?

yvesOttawa - yes, OSD will pass through data from mk to your computer and back.
Currently this will not work with MK firmware upgrade.

Hi Irek
I have a Castle Creation BEC Pro set to 12 v to run the camera and Tx. UPDATE : i have the signal only going to and from the board, no + or -. Board is powered from Nav. It is the same set up i used for the Eagle Tree which did work fine until I replaced it with Smart.
Thanks
Azred

dear irek

i know i'm more than a pain in the neck ;-/.
but my orientation issue is still not solved. could you please send me some trial version to test.
or include a further parameter for tuning?
this week i have still time, later it will become more problematic.

thank you for your help and understanding,

When I use my kx-191 camera, my setup works flawlessly, and the smart osd image is bright and easy to read. However if I switch to my gopro2 live feed with an otherwise same setup, the osd image is dark and the letters and symbols are no longer white, but almost look like a negative. The picture however is displayed normally. Why would that happen? As far as I know the gopro2 is simply putting out a pal or ntsc composite signal. Can anyone explain a possible reason why this would occur? edit: Just wanted to reiterate that the gopro2 image without the osd is flawless.

Hi Irek
I think I have found the issue. The screen flickering only occurs when I have 4S battery attached, with a 3S the screen is fine. Any suggestions on how to overcome this issue, as i use 4S?
Thanks

Hello,

Grex - please wait just few more days

Azred, wep800 - the only reason of this flickering could be powering disturbances,
what type of stabilizator do you have in you fc ?
About regulators temp, i will check if I could take this info from fc.

billyd - today we will test osd with go pro hd2, maybe there is some difference in relation to go pro.
Did you tried to adjust the potis, does this help or not ?

Matzito - take a look at your @

Kenaschon - I'm working on possibility to communicate with mk without camera.

Hi Irek,

Yes I tried the potis no help. The issue is the white lettering looks like a film negative instead.

Also the contrast is poor, and the symbols and letters are hard to see regardless of potis settings.

I've read the gopro(2)'s have non standard composite feeds, which is probably causing the issue.

I decided to use a different camera to resolve the issue for now. Kx-191 works great.

If you can find a solution for the gopro2 then I'll go back to it. Thanks for the great osd.

Don't understand, what stabilizator do you mean? Power is coming from the Navi-ctrl right?

(cool about the temp... fingers crossed)

Same as wep800. 4s battery is attached to Fc which powers the Nav and Smart?

a nice to have would also be graphical elements to add. e.g. lines, text... ;-)

I just ran some 3s and 4s batteries to the MK. Output to the Smart OSD always showed 4.99v regardless of battery used. However, as battery voltage exceeded 12.35v flickering was induced and it became more erratic as the voltage increased. Any ideas on a solution? The Fc is a 2.0 and the Nav is 2.0.

Let measure video signal - may be you need to use voltage dropping resistor in case of 4S, as it is done in my copter and, BTW, predicted by Irek in OSD manual?

Hi Liutas4x4
I read that in the manual, but had no idea what "signal is too high" means. If that means the OSD will flicker, I have it. I did check the voltage signal on the Video in and for 3s it was .06v for 4s it was .07v. Irek, is that too high? If that is the problem, the manual says a 75ohm resistor is included, but i did not see it in my package. Is it anything special or is any that I can find is OK?

About resistor - about any 75 Ohm, as I can predict - 0.125 W SMD - check by geometry of it.

Really 60 mV? Huh. Or time is going too fast and I am on backside, or there must to be something like 750 mV (0.75V).
It is measured by oscilloscope? Multimeter is not a valid tool for this king of measuring!
