Hello,

I'm surveyor and I'm going to take with me a mikrokopter for next job. I would like to capture some aerial pictures of the mine pit where I'm going to survey. The people from the mine told me, that the orebody (titanium and iron ore) is magnetic and that they can't use any magnetic orienting device. Is it even possible to fly in this environment? I must surely give up GPS and etc. its position hold features but is it possible to fly only with FC? Does the magnetism have any influence on the gyros and accelerometers?

Does anybody have some experience or an opinion?

Thank you

Hi

I had one experience, inside a building, were magnetic disturbances were so big in some places that i could not start the engines or they was no gas action !

What i did is that i disconnected everything but FC and could fly without any problem.

Thank you for your experience. I'm expecting that I will fly without NC and GPS. I hope it will be possible. I will post here my experiece after I'll return.

hi,

I don't think there will be any disturbances on the FC. Sure, Forget any NC and GPS Controls, but if there are no electro-magnetc fields, there shouldn't be any conflicts.
Only iron ore is lying around. so no changing fields...

Hello,
Mikrokopter handled this tough task perfectly. I did the compass calibration in the place cca 50 km from the mine beceause I was worried that it wont be possible to do there. I also decreased compass value and did some parameters tuning as usuall. Mikrokopter was flying without any problem. GPS hold works as good as usual even in 150m deep pit. I tried to fly with my smaller hexa with DJI Naza, which usually flies wery wel, but there I was unable to put it in GPS hold. Due to big magnetic disturbance, It circled around one spot. Due to very limited posibilities of settings, I was able to fly only in attitude or manual mode.
I'm so happy that I can count on miktokopter. DJI has perfect PH and AH, but if you want real working machine with high range of setting and reliability mikrokopter is the best.
